Found a house we like

Yesterday (Thursday) we visited a few more properties. We have now upped our pricing limit and we now seem to be in the correct budget to find the houses that we want (around $250k).

We saw one fantastic new build which was perfection inside, all be it larger than we need (4,000 sq ft), however the location was not ideal. We saw four more properties of which two were very nice. They were on large 1.4 acre plots and the houses were great. Once appealed more than the other are we are in two minds as to whether to make an offer on it. It has the type of plot we want, it’s private and the house pretty much fits our requirements.

We have a couple more properties to see tomorrow and will make up our minds after seeing them. We can either make an offer now and hope we get our PR soon, or we can wait and hope that either that house is still available when we do move out here or that another house which is just as good or better is available then. Decisions, decisions.

We are visiting some friends we met through an ex-pats forum tonight. They emigrated here last year and have invited us to their house for a chat over coffee. it will be great to hear their views and perhaps get some helpful tips etc.

More tomorrow!

More houses visited

Yesterday (Tuesday) we went to the bank to deposit some cash in our new account and to pick up our ATM cards. They programmed the cards with PIN number whilst we waited.

We were also able to set up both phone and internet banking. All done very quickly and staff were very helpful.

After the bank we visited the small business centre to discuss our business plans with them and get advice. Although I have been in contact with them via email and been told that we could just drop in and no appointment was needed, when we arrived the receptionist did everything she could to prevent us from meeting with anyone. We got palmed off with lots of leaflets and told to phone them if we had any questions. Very unsatisfactory visit.

Today (Weds) we went to the Simcoe area to view more houses. The realtor took us to about 8 properties. We found some which were nice houses in not so nice areas or visa versa. One property was particularly nice but the area was not so nice, so we had to dismiss it.

We have decided we may have to up our pricing limit a little in order to find the right house in the right area. Tomorrow we are visiting a couple more properties, so we will have to see.
