He’s hairy

Well not literally, but he is called a Hairy Woodpecker and he spent quite a long time zipping up and down the tree picking up bits off the floor and depositing them in the tree trunk.

We have had a Downy Woodpecker before but not a Hairy.

He spent ages trying to drill the seeds out of the box and couldn’t seem to work the whole situation out!

New birds spotted

Sorry I haven’t written for a while, but I haven’t really done anything to write about!

We have had two new birds in our garden a white-breasted nuthatch and a red-breasted nuthatch. I have managed to get a photo of the white-breasted but not the red, which is much smaller.

We have also had an influx of snowbirds, a sure sign of winter approaching.
The deer is still coming by most nights and hovering up the left over bird food and we love to see her in the garden.

The weather has been all over the place lately. Last Monday it was 27C, but the next day it was only 12C. Today we popped out and the car temp gauge said It was 6C, but when I went out onto our deck, the sun was shining and I could easily have sat out there in just a t-shirt – strange!
