birds, deer, aunts and uncles
Well we have had quite a lot of activity in the garden lately. Tons of blackbirds and grackles about, plus quite a few robins. From these pics you can see the stunning colours of the grackles.
We spotted a new bird yesterday which is a fox sparrow. It is much bigger than most of the other sparrows we have, around the size of a blackbird.
This morning we also had a visit from two deer.
As you can see from these pics most of the snow has gone now, just a bit where the sun doesn’t penetrate the trees and where the snow was piled particularly high. Yesterday it was 16C and today we are promised 18C although tonight and much of the rest of week we are getting rain with lower temps.
I cannot believe it but my aunt and uncle are arriving from Spain on Monday. When they first booked their trip it was about nine months ago and suddenly here we are. We are hoping the weather continues to be nice and warm as they are having temps in the mid 20C in Spain so it might be a bit of a shock coming here. Mind you we are sitting out on the deck and feeling very warm now. I guess it is a case of perspective!
So it is all actions go now, making sure their room is ready, washing and airing all the bedding, towels etc . We are also buying their toiletries so that they don’t need to bring things over with them which can be a hassle these days on airlines.
We have been looking to places to take them such as the provincial parks although some places are weather dependent so we will have to wait and see. They are going down to Niagara Falls on their own for a couple of days and then we are all going to Ottawa for a couple for days as we haven’t been there either, so it will be new for all of us.
Really looking forward to seeing them in the flesh again as we haven’t seen them since we went to Spain in October 2005.

How long will your Aunt and Uncle be here, Jane? The Tulip Festival won’t be until about the 2nd and 3rd week in May but it is wonderful. Ottawa in the spring is a great adventure. So much to see and do. Don’t forget to visit the cats on Parliament Hill. Not sure if they found someone to take over for the original caretaker but I’m sure someone volunteered. Will you be going over to Hull? Or perhaps to the Carlton Raceway for a little bit of gambling? Have a great time with your guests. I’ll be in Alaska from May 10th to the 21st and perhaps will have to set up a blog for all my adventures and pictures.
Hi Rete
Unfortunately they are only here for two weeks so will miss the Tulip Festival, but we hope to go along ourselves. Lets hope the weather hasn’t been so bad the tulips aren’t blooming in time! We will definitely go to Parliament Hill and the canal etc I can’t wait.
Not sure about the gambling, we have spent several days on a few occasions in Las Vegas and never got around to gambling – weird aren’t we! Mind you a woman won nearly 9 million on the slots the other week, so…..
Alaska sound great, I would love to go sometime. Have a great time and a blog is an excellent idea.
