At last – a doctor!
Anyone reading this over time will know that since we arrived in Canada in July 2006 we have been unable to find a family doctor. There is a huge shortage here! I have phoned various doctors offices to see if we might be accepted but never got anywhere. Around Christmas time I was made aware that a new doctor from the UK was going to be setting up practice in Belleville so I wrote him a letter introducing ourselves as fellow Brits and asking that once he is established if we can become patients. Well it seems to have worked because we got a call from his office asking if we still needed a doctor and if so he would take us on – yippee!
We have to go to a meeting with him in a couple of weeks and presumably will be interviewed about our medical history etc and then we will be taken on. The woman who phoned said that he is taking on everyone he interviews so looks like we have finally found a doctor which is a big relief. I know I have received excellent medical attention since being here, but knowing we have a doctor to hand who has all our history etc and that we can get annual medical with is a big bonus.
I guess the moral of the story is keep trying and eventually, even if it takes a few years you will eventually get a doctor.
