Welcome to the first day of summer
Yesterday we saw the killdeer again but only the adults. They were both together without any babies so I suspect that all the babies are no more. Normally if they are together the babies are with them. We also saw the male displaying to the female so possibly they are thinking of making more babies to replace the ones lost. What a shame
We do however have baby squirrels around. We have seen one or two on their own and you will have seen pics on this blog. This morning we saw a mother and baby playing in the tree. She was leading him (or her) to the various feeding places although he seemed to prefer to try to feed from her. I tried to take some pics but they were wizzing round the tree so they are not the best ones.
Here is the baby, ahha
And mum trying to pry peanuts from the feeder.
We still have lots of baby birds around and we have also seen a chipmunk who looks a lot smaller than normal, so perhaps a baby chipmunk too. Talking of chipmunks we are still hand feeding a couple of our chips who remember they are tame from last year.
We are waiting for some decent weather to re-vanish the decks. Since we bought the varnish we have had intense heat in the thirties, so too hot to do it and then this week we keep getting rain, so now too wet. Hopefully the weather will sort itself out soon – especially as today is officially the first day of summer.
