Winter arrives

Although I have mentioned snow a few times this past week but last night was the first of the snowfall to linger on the ground. This is our back garden this morning.

And this is a squirrel braving the flurries.

This morning after those flurries we have had beautiful bright sunshine and blue skies and a lot of the snow has gone although it is still well below freezing.

We have been watching lots of birds flying in and out and managed to get a photo of the red-breasted nuthatch whcih we don’t often see. Usually we get the white-breasted variety.

Unfortunately you cannot see his red breast from this angle.
