Ahhh bless!!
Anyone reading my blog on a regular basis will know that we often have flying squirrels in our garden. They are nocturnal and so are always around at night and always seem to prefer one of our feeders which is furthest from the house. This means that taking a photo has been a trial.
Recently we moved one of our feeders to a tree outside the kitchen window and we have been leaving food on it at night in the hope the squirrel will find it – well he did.
Last night we had one of the flying squirrels in the feeder box and because he is much closer we finally managed to get some decent photos of him. Now is he cute or what?

I just adore him. You can just about make out the flaps of skin along his front legs which form the “wings” he uses to “fly” between trees.
Onto a completely different subject – we only paid 65.9 cents for gas yesterday. That is the cheapest we have ever paid since being in Canada. even when we first arrived 2.5 years ago it was 72c. See miracles do happen at Christmas time!
On that subject.
I want to wish everyone a really lovely Christmas – here’s to a happy, healthy and prosperous 2009.

Love the latest photos, can you tell me please what camera you are using?
Hope you had a good Christmas and all the best for the New Year.
We have a few different cameras that we use. The main ones are a Panasonic FX8 and a Canon Powershot SX10IS. We also have a scope with a built in camera for taking distant shots, but they are never as clear. It is good for quick identification though and we keep it constantly pointed at the garden. I also always carry a small Canon pocket camera in my handbag – just in case we spot something when we are out and about and don’t have a “proper” camera with us.
He is gorgeous….well done for managing to get the photos……..and for sharing them with us

Love your flying squirrel. It is amazing what wonderful photographs you have taken over the years. I simply love reading your blog. In fact, there is another BE member who recently moved to Alaska from Michigan and her hubby has set up a website and, like yourself, posts wonderful photos of the land and animals in Alaska. Have a look: http://blog.dog-berry.com/
