Political madness in Canada
Things are really crazy here regarding Canadian politics. Normally I do not venture into this territory but under current circumstances fear I must.
Just six weeks ago Canada went to the polls to vote. At the time we had a minority Conservative government. After the polls we still had a minority Conservative government but with more of a minority than before i.e. they gained a lot more seats but not enough to get a majority. The Liberals lost lots of seats.
Now we find ourselves with a looming coalition government. The Liberals, NBP and the Bloc Quebecois have got together to try to oust Stephen Harper out of power. Regardless of who you support this type of government cannot work, particularly with the involvement of a party that wants to divide Canada completely. Anyone who thinks that these three parties can work together in harmony for the good of Canada is crazy – no three parties can possibly do this successfully.
The Canadian people had their say a few weeks ago and elected a Conservative government they did not vote for a coalition. If this is now an option we should be allowed to vote again and know what we are voting for. Now it seems that the Governor General who is an unelected body can decide to give power to an unelected coalition government.
In the current economic climate the country needs stability and the current government offers that. Okay not everyone supports Stephen Harper, but surely an established government is a much better bet than a coalition which includes the Bloc who are a separatist party.
I believe that the coalition should not be allowed to simply take over without the Canadian voting public having a say. If the public vote the coalition in, then fine, but if not then they should step down and let the Conservatives govern. By allowing the coalition to take over now goes against the democracy of Canada and basically says to all voting Canadians – your vote last month meant nothing and we are ignoring your views altogether and doing exactly what we want. It says they do not care about Canadians or Canada but rather they put their own demands for power ahead of everything. This is not the sort of people I personally want governing the country I live in.
Okay, now I will step off my soapbox and relax – breathe – relax – breathe…..
