Grey squirrel update

Well the grey squirrel we had in our garden has been here everyday for the last four days, so it looks like he has decided to stay for a while. The reds seem to tolerate him and he likewise, but they keep their distances.

He has started to get more inquisitive and came up to the deck yesterday which he had never done before.

As you an see he still does have some red in his coat when the sun catches it, but is very grey compared to the reds.

I mentioned before about how huge he is compared to our regular reds. I tried to get a photo to give a comparison, but due to their wariness of each other it has been difficult. I managed to get this rather poor photo, but you can see how much bigger he is.

Last night we saw him collecting grass and debris from the garden and taking it up one of our trees, so maybe he is sleeping there.

New visitor to the garden

With all the animals we have in the garden it might seem strange that we would get excited about a grey squirrel. However in all the years we have been here we have never had a grey one before – loads and loads of reds and one or two black ones (part of the grey family) but we have never had a actual grey one.

This squirrel is huge compared to our reds and I wish the two types could have gotten close enough to get a photo to see the difference, but they kept their distance.

So, here is our visitor. He has a very long, bushy tail.
