Gananoque boat tour

Bolt Castle

As I mentioned in my previous post it is really hot at the moment, so today (Monday) we decided to drive up to Gananoque and take a boat tour of the 1000 Islands.

We got to Gananoque an hour before our tour was due to begin and exchanged our internet voucher ticket to real tickets. It was incredibly hot that day and we ended up sitting in the nearby cafe eating ice cream before joining the line to board.

We started off in the middle deck of the boat inside, but soon moved to the top deck as the weather was so beautiful. Thankfully the motion of the boat across the water causing a good breeze, soon gave some relief from the heat.

There is a constant narration as you travel both in English then French. The tour also includes details and images of some of the many shipwrecks in the lake making it very interesting. We also saw lots of osprey nests along the way as well as many huge and beautiful homes. The tours also goes past Bolt Castle which is very beautiful. You can do a tour which takes you on the island to tour the castle, but we did not do this.

Our tour was 2.5 hours and it was really good, we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It also made for a pretty relaxing day.

On the way home we stopped off at Kingston and went round the outlet mall there. After that it was home for dinner and an early night.

Babies all over the garden

Female Rudy-Thrroated Hummingbird

We now have lots of birds and animals in the garden now with lots of babies too. Here are a few photos of the chipmunk babies we have.

They  are really tiny, but still willing to wander all over the garden.

We also have a squirrel nesting in one of the bird boxes and she has some babies. Not sure how many yet but here she is trying to get one of them back in.

And the defiant baby having none of it.

We also have the hummingbirds back again. We have several feeders on the deck and at the windows and have about three pairs coming and going all day. They are so tiny, especially the males who are half the size of the females.

The girls arrive next week for two weeks holiday, so I hope the weather continues although we are forecast lots of rain over the next couple of days. Just as long as it holds off whilst they are here so we can do plenty of things!
