<p>We have started to see some baby blue jays in the garden now. They are so funny as they tend to be bald around the neck and head for a while before they get their full feathers. This is a couple who were outside yesterday.</p>
<p><img class="size-full wp-image-1797 alignnone" title="IMG_1620" src="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/IMG_1620.jpg" alt="" width="548" height="415" /></p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1798" title="IMG_1609" src="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/IMG_1609.jpg" alt="" width="548" height="415" /></p>
<p>Also the other morning we were late putting out the feeders. When this happens we see a lot of birds hanging around in the trees waiting. Also the squirrels and chipmunks tend to come up onto the deck as if to ask when are we going to feed them.</p>
<p>This particular morning a chipmunk sat on top of the deck post and seemed to be scowling at us. He seemed pretty angry that he was being kept waiting for his breakfast.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1799" title="IMG_1614" src="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/IMG_1614.jpg" alt="" width="548" height="415" /></p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1800" title="IMG_1615" src="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/IMG_1615.jpg" alt="" width="548" height="415" /></p>
<p>Also, we now have a family of hummingbirds. One of the pairs now has babies who are using our feeders. Last night four of them were outside the window together. Trouble was I watched them for several minutes, but as soon as I got the camera out they vanished. They are obviously camera shy. But I will keep trying.</p>

<p>I have managed to get photos of the female cardinal on the deck before, but the male is much more nervous and so any movement from us and he is off. However Chris managed to get a couple of pics yesterday.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/IMG_0960.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1569" title="IMG_0960" src="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/IMG_0960.jpg" alt="" width="548" height="415" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/IMG_0962.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1570" title="IMG_0962" src="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/IMG_0962.jpg" alt="" width="548" height="415" /></a></p>
<p>We also have lots of squirrels about and they are all losing their winter coats and replacing it with finer, thiner summer coats. Trouble is they all look really tatty at the moment.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/IMG_0952.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1571" title="IMG_0952" src="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/IMG_0952.jpg" alt="" width="548" height="415" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/IMG_0930.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1572" title="IMG_0930" src="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/IMG_0930.jpg" alt="" width="548" height="415" /></a></p>
<p>We have also seen the return of some of our other birds such as the towhee pictured below and the grosbeaks and also the thrashers. Of course there are always blue jays.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/towee.png"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1574" title="towee" src="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/towee.png" alt="" width="548" height="415" /></a></p>

<p>We have lots of babies in the garden at the moment from chipmunks, rabbits and squirrels to various birds. It is fun watching them find their way around and copy the adults. The only trouble is there are now many more creatures in the garden which leads to more fights.</p>
<p>Here is our tame chipmunk chilling out on his favorite spot &#8211; the corner of our deck. He sits here when he gets up in the morning. He starts off silent, just chilling then starts his &#8220;chipping&#8221; chant which can last a long time and can get annoying. If we tap on the window he will sometimes just ignore us, but other times he will leap up to the windowsill and watch us through the window, almost begging for a peanut.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1445" title="P1040715" src="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/P1040715.jpg" alt="P1040715" width="548" height="415" /></p>
<p>This baby squirrel who was really small and could easily have fitted into my quite small hand with room to spare was sitting on our windowsill yesterday morning.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1439" title="P1040721" src="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/P1040721.JPG" alt="P1040721" width="548" height="415" /></p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1440" title="P1040726" src="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/P1040726.JPG" alt="P1040726" width="548" height="415" /></p>
<p>He stayed there for quite some time and was not the least bit concerned with us cooing and photographing him through the window.</p>
<p>The baby birds are also about and there are currently a lot of blue jays who have yet to develop head feathers &#8211; as you can see.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1441" title="P1040744" src="http://www.canadajane.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/P1040744.JPG" alt="P1040744" width="548" height="415" /></p>
<p>They all look a bit prehistoric at the moment!</p>
