There was also a rainbow section when everyone displayed as many colours as possible to depict the various type of cancer i.e. pink for breast cancer. Very colorful and lots of balloons were let off in lots of colours. There were bands playing, DJ’s playing songs and not a moment went by when music was not in the air. If we weren’t walking around the track we were dancing or doing the Zooma – a new craze hitting the gyms. At 11:30 pm all the luminaries were lit in honor of people who have survived or currently suffering from cancer. There were also many luminaries for those who have lost the battle. A very moving moment to the backdrop of Amazing Grace played on the bagpipes. Fabulous.

One of the funniest moments was the lip-sinking competition. Many teams entered as did we and we chose to sing the song One Eyed, One Horned, Flying Purple People Eater. This was due to the fact our team’s colour was purple. What we didn’t realize was that the other teams obviously took the event very seriously and have rehearsed for weeks, possibly months. We, on the other hand had spend ten minutes looking through the words. Whilst we were waiting for our turn on stage we managed to put together a short dance routine for our chorus, however when we got on stage the DJ played a different version of the song which did not include as many choruses, so we did not do as well as we hoped. But we had fun trying! What we did manage to do is get one of the husbands (Steve) to dress up as a purple people eater. Here is the result – quite fabulous I think you will agree. Thanks for being such a great sport Steve.

By the end of the night (7 am Sat), only a few of us were left standing (staggering) but it was truly worth it. Our team raised over $5,000 and in total the event raised over $380,000 which is terrific, especially in light of today’s economic climate. Well done to all those who took part, pledged etc. Fabulous night had by all.

I got home around 7:30 am on Saturday morning and slept for four hours before continuing on with the day.
