This morning we were sitting eating breakfast when the Blue Jays started screeching, this is normally a sign of a predator so we scanned the landscape and spotted the Northern Goshawk on the top of a distant tree. This is one of the largest hawks we get and he appears every so often.
I managed to zoom in with the scope and get these pics, but they are not great as he was a long way away.

He is a beautiful bird with white stripes over each eye – however I don’t want him to prey on our garden wildlife! But as every in nature, what will be, will be.
We are still experiencing very cold temps into the -20′s excluding windchill which takes it to nearer -30C. Last Friday we experienced a mini heat wave and by early evening temps had risen to a barmy +2C, however by Saturday morning we were down to -19C – an amazing drop overnight.
It’s budget day tomorrow so we will have to see what Mr Harper has in store for us. Of course his job and his government are also on the line with the Liberals and NDP baying for his blood and ready to oppose the budget and force either a coalition government or another election. Just what this country needs at this time of economical turmoil.
Well what a fiasco the political situation has gotten into. The other night Stephen Harper went on national TV to present his argument for staying in government. The coalition leader – Dion also had airtime. Trouble was the CTV show was on half an hour and Dion failed to get his tape to the station on time. I then turned over to CBC to see if Coronation St was on and finally Dion was on air. His video was of out of focus and at a strange angle, in fact just really poor quality as well as being half an hour late – and this man wants to rule the country!
Eventually Harper got to prorogued parliament, or rather the Governor General has so everything is on standstill till end of January – we will see what happens then.
On a more important note, I need a new pair of oven gloves and have tried everywhere to find them. Why you might ask? Well, there are lots about it just seems that my hands are small and all gloves are far too big for me. This will make them dangerous as my fingers do not come to the ends of the fingers and I will not be able to grip dishes properly. So, come on oven glove manufacturers, learn that women and men come in different sizes and not all women have hands the size of dinner plates!
Oh well, I will just have to stop cooking till I find a pair that fits!
