Spring is here

Snowshoe Hare

Well, Spring is here, but not really having had a proper winter we haven’t really seen much difference. In fact the last couple of weeks of March were spectacular with temp in the mid twenties. We have since gone down in temps, but they are still above seasonal norms. We did have snow last Friday, but it only lasted a few hours in the evening and any that settled was gone by morning.

Lots of our summer birds are now back including the flickers. We are still waiting for cowbirds, grosbeaks and a few others, but spring is definitely here. This is  photo of one of our snowshoe hares starting to loose his white winter coat.

And here are two of the most adorable chipmunk photos you will ever see. Thanks to Chris for these.

Baby bunny nearly beheaded

IMG_2726

Chris has been out this morning mowing the garden and then started the edges with the strimmer. Suddenly he banged on the door telling me to come out quick. Wondering what on earth was wrong I shot out to where he was pointing at this tiny bunny huddled in the grass. He came so close to being sliced with the strimmer, he was very lucky Chris spotted him in time.

You can see how really tiny he is when I picked him up to put him a little further along the deck out of harms way.

We had noticed one of the rabbits sitting on the deck and running round it only this morning – maybe this is why!
